Types of Macrame Knots

Macrame can be simply defined as the art of tying knots in a decorative way to make beautiful crafts. The above definition shows the importance of knots in the art of macramé. We have several types of knots used in making plant hangers, jewlrey, bags, chairs, etc.

These varieties of macrame knots include;
Square Knot
Double Half-hitch Knot
Hanger knot
Button Square Knot
Half Knot
Decorative Knot
Overhand Knot
Pitcher knot
Lanyard knot
Larks head knot
Pitcher knot
Brocade knot
Cross knot
Chinese button and several others.
Let's briefly discuss the first three types of macrame knots;
1. The Square Knot, also called the reef knot of all the various types is the one used most. It is among the basic macrame knots. They are often tied with more than two cords. This knot type is used in making fishing baits and other types of macrame crafts. Mostly, they are used in the body of patterns and in the mounting process.

2. Double Half-hitch Knot is very crucial to the art of macrame for it is used in most of the decorative patterrns.Making this knot involves tying series of knots close to the other. They are also used to create complex shapes.

3. The Hanger Knot just as the name implies is used to make loops for the purpose of hanging things. The knots are also used for decoration. It is an uncommon knot in modern macrame patterns.
